Our approach to learning
Our approach is built around four core values: Support and Nurture, Inspire Creativity, Think Visually and Be Extraordinary.
We empower children to take an active role in their learning and encourage them to use their surroundings as a source of inspiration and discovery. Through carefully considered activities and experiences, children are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, solve problems and develop new skills while having fun.
Our team creates a rich and welcoming environment where children can learn through play, relationships, creativity and everyday experiences. While a range of languages may be spoken by our staff, English remains the main language of teaching and learning.
The Dovecote Kindness Code
Kindness is at the heart of our nursery community. From their first day at Dovecote, children are introduced to the Dovecote Kindness Code and encouraged to practise kindness, respect and consideration throughout their time with us.
The Kindness Code helps children understand how we care for one another and our shared environment. It encourages children to:
- Be kind to our friends.
- Help look after our friends, teachers and family.
- Play gently and invite others to join in.
- Share toys and books.
- Wait for our turn.
- Keep our classrooms clean and tidy.
- Ask a teacher when we need help.
- Say “please” and “thank you”.
- Look after each other when playing outside.
- Join in at tidy-up time.
- Listen to our friends during circle time.
These simple principles help children build positive relationships, develop empathy and understand the importance of being part of a caring community.
