A Typical Dovecote Day

A day shaped around your child

Every day at Dovecote has a familiar rhythm, while leaving plenty of room to respond to each child’s needs, interests and stage of development. This balance of routine and flexibility helps children feel secure because they know what to expect, while still having the freedom to explore, play and learn in ways that are right for them.

Our rooms are prepared with the children’s ages and stages of development in mind, with experiences designed to encourage exploration, creativity and new skills. By spending time playing and talking with children, and through close communication with parents, our teachers get to know each child well and plan experiences that will interest, engage and appropriately challenge them.

Children enjoy opportunities to play both indoors and outdoors. During the hotter months, outdoor play is carefully managed so children can continue to enjoy time outside while avoiding the most intense heat.

Morning

The day begins with arrivals and a warm welcome from the team. This is also an important opportunity for parents to share anything that may help us understand how their child is feeling that morning.

Children can settle into an activity or area of play that interests them, with teachers nearby to help them feel comfortable and ready for the day. Drinks and healthy snacks are offered during the morning.

Lunch

Lunch is generally served at around 11.30am and is approached as a relaxed, sociable part of the day. Children eat together with members of the team, with conversation and shared mealtimes helping to make lunch an enjoyable experience.

Sleep and rest

Younger children may need to sleep during the day, and we work closely with parents to understand the routine that suits each child.

Children who need to sleep can rest in our dedicated sleep room, providing a quiet and peaceful space that is supervised at all times by a member of staff.

Home time

At the end of the day, our team is available to share how your child has been, talk through their experiences and pass on any important information.

These everyday conversations help maintain close communication between home and nursery and ensure that each child’s needs continue to be understood and supported.
